The end of the world

"Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” (Matthew 24:1-2 NKJV)

The transient temple and the everlasting one

All Jews were boasting about their temple which was awesome and was so beautiful. When the disciples show their admiration about the temple, Our Lord prophesied and foretold them that the temple will be destroyed and no one stone shall be left upon another.

This was fulfilled by the Roman army thirty years later. They were boasting but the Lord Jesus did not please with their boasting about the temple. He drew their attention to the fact that this temple is transient and it will not last forever because it will soon perish. St Paul taught us that we are the precious temple of God as he said: "Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?" (1 Corinthians 3:16 NKJV). The collapse of the temple of the Jews was also referring to the earthly life of each one of us. If It does not glorify God it will perish as the Jews temple had perished, because the world and what belongs to it will pass away, If that temple was glorifying God it would not be destroyed.

Focusing your attention on the everlasting things and not on the passing away things.

The Lord Jesus. Christ was attracting their attention to the heavenly things. Our life sooner or later would come to an end as the bible mentioned by St. Peter saying: ...“All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away," (1 Peter 1:24 NKJV ). First we must focus our attention on the permanent and heavenly things which will last forever and we must diligently seek for it . Secondly we must focus on ourselves because we are the living temple and so we are the most precious temple of God.

The signs of the end of the world

After our Lord confirmed to His disciples that the Jew's temple will be destroyed. He foretold them also about the end of the world, and gave them the signs of its end. But why the Lord gave them and us the signs of the end of the world? He aims to make us always to be watchful and to keep waiting for His second coming or to keep waiting for our departure from this world. He also pushes us always and by many ways to expect the everlasting heavenly eternal things instead the vanities of this world as it written: "while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:18 NKJV )

Be watchful

At the end of the conversation of Our Savior Lord Jesus Christ with His disciples, He warned us saying: "Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into." (Matthew 24:42-43 NKJV). We can notice that although the Lord foretold us about the signs which would occur prior to the collapse of the world and prior to His second Coming, He warned us that the hour and the day of His coming will be unknown to us because it will come suddenly, and He likened it by the coming of the thief who nobody knows when he will come.

The children of God are always watchful because they are also the children of the true light.

At the end of the world the Lord's Coming will be unknown for many and abruptly because the people at that will be busy by their earthly life. Their minds will be occupied and will not be caring about the heavenly kingdom of God but the children of God are the sons of light will be watchful and waiting for His second coming they will be expecting and His coming as it is written: " Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation." (1 Thessalonians 5:6-8 NKJV).

If you want to be a son of light you must have intimate relationship with the true light.

Nobody could live as a son of light, alert and watching seriously for his salvation without having a good relationship with the true light our Lord Jesus Christ. Watching needs us to pray and to search Scriptures every day diligently, and studying the Holy bible and always watching our behavior and conduct every day according to Holy Gospel. So it is our precious life we must be alert to and we must strive diligently to be ready for this monumental time.
